Katakana Examples

In last week's class we were introduced to katakana, the Japanese script used for borrowed words and onomatopoeia, among other things.  In order to familiarize ourselves with katakana, we were encouraged to surf the web and find some examples.  Here are some examples of katakana used in the world of sports!

Hideki Matsui is a Japanese baseball player.  He played in top-tier leagues in both Japan and America, spending most of his career with the Yomiuri Giants (1993-2002) and the New York Yankees (2003-2009).  At the plate, Matsui was known for his powerful hitting, earning him the nickname Godzilla.  After a twenty-year career that included 3 Japan Series Championships and a World Series MVP and Championship, Matsui will go down in history as one of the best Japanese baseball players to ever come to America.
